Satellite internet on the up 04/10/2012
I find this little snippet interesting. Despite my recommendations, we are finding an uptake of satellite internet in large towns on the Costa Blanca where there are a plethora of 'regular', and cheap internet providers. Why? Well it seems that for some, they have issues with many of these providers, or it's just that some of these cheap suppliers simply cannot deliver what they promise. We've known that fact for ages but some people still seem to put up with them simply because they're cheap (by Spanish standards). So there we have it, satellite internet isn't just for the fringes where there's no alternative so why not bite the bullet and get yourself the reliable alternative to oversubscribed wired ADSL and unreliable wireless systems. None of our satellite clients have experienced an outage since connecting to the new satellite systems over 12 months ago. How many of you on traditional ADSL or the cheapo wireless networks can say that. I don't know of anyone! News has emerged that the Flashback malware has infected around 2% of all Macs out there. If you have a Mac, or know someone who has, please check to see if it is infected here. The link will open in a new window and take you to the PC Advisor website where there are instructions and a link to check your Mac. Since the introduction of VoIP telephones under our VoIP CB banner 3 months ago things have gone from strength to strength with us attaining satisfied clients in the UK, Spain, Germany, Holland and Switzerland. What else can we say? Why have things taken off as they have? Well I guess that must be down to the way we do business. We don't rip people off, we provide a service that is reasonably priced, AND WORKS, we don't tell lies, we are so open we're transparent. We don't pressure people into buying our services, in fact we do just the opposite. We're not scared to send people away if we believe they'll get a better deal elsewhere because we know that by doing that they will come back again because they can trust us. That is what we do. Unlike some others out there, we don't get paid to send you somewhere else so we have no vested interest. If we believe something is crap, we'll say so and we won't recommend it. VoiP isn't for everyone, but for those it is for, they absolutely love it. If we can't save you money with our VoIP service we'll tell you. Our rates are cheaper than Skype PAYG rates. Please don't confuse VoIP with Skype as they are totally different. Please remember, VoIP telephones rely entirely on the quality of your internet. If you have poor quality internet, you will experience poor quality VoIP. You can check the quality of your internet here, just click the begin test button and if you get a windows firewall box pop up click on unblock. VoIP services need a score of A, B or C. With rates starting at less than 1 cent a minute, why don't you join the VoIP revolution and put a packet back in your pocket. Improve your web rankings - the latest scam 04/03/2012
I've been receiving emails lately from people claiming they can improve the rankings of my website. I like the idea of improving the rankings but we must remember a few basic facts. There can only be 10 websites on page one of any web search so how are these people going to guarantee me being on page one every time someone searches for my services when there are loads of other people all offering the same service. Get real!. Another pointer to the scam is to do a search on their area of expertise. The emails I've had relate to SEO (search engine optimisation) and Link Optimisation so I search on these topics and guess what; no results for their website in the first ten pages of Google. Do I want to give lots of money to someone who can't even get their own website ranked - don't think so! One of these emails even had a link to a B2B (business to business) profile on a networking website to give themselves credibility, except the link was dead and when I checked, they weren't even registered there anyway. The lengths these people will go to. You have been warned! Tooway - further update 02/10/2012
Well, I've not heard anything back from tooway but I've had feedback from clients using tooway along with my VoIP accounts to the effect all seems to be working well once again so I can only assume tooway have done something to resolve the problem. PAYG Internet from 1/3/2012 02/10/2012

I received a response back from tooway regarding possible problems caused by their introduction of UK IP addresses. They tell me that in the process of providing a UK IP that they have made "no changes at our end". Well, they HAVE made changes because they are routing the signal from the ground station in Turin to a server in the UK which, by nature of the mechanics, creates delays. As far as I'm aware, that's the ONLY way to provide a UK IP and that IS making a change. I await their response. The upshot of all this is that Tooway claim on their website that their service is VoIP compatible but because of all the delays they have introduced into the system, anyone interested in satellite internet and a telephone then we would recommend the Hylas system as their ground station is in the UK at Goonhilly. That is not to say you cannot use the tooway system with our VoIP telephone service, you can but you need to be aware of the delays when having a conversation. Kodak bankrupt after 131 years 01/20/2012
Well the sad news for all at Kodak is that they have filed for bankruptcy protection whilst they reorganise their business interests. You can read more on PCAdvisor here. Beware the Microsoft telephone scam 01/17/2012
This week I've has calls from two people telling me they've had a call from Microsoft. Let's get one thing abundantly clear -Microsoft DO NOT call people to tell them they have an issue with their computer or Windows. Here is the proof. If Microsoft are aware of a Windows problem with their operating systems they release a fix for the next monthly update unless it's important then they release it immediately. They do not phone you up to tell you! You often get the phone call shortly after you apparently report an error to Microsoft but what you have actually done is supplied the fraudsters with permission to access your computer remotely. The issue here, of course, is that now they have control of your computer, they can download all your temporary internet files in the hope that there will be pages containing your passwords and credit card details. They will also have the ability to steal any passwords you have asked your internet browser to store for you, so don't! They will also be scanning your computer for any documents they can use for identity theft as well. It has been going on since at least 2008 from call centres in India and the are getting more sophisticated. Here is an article published in the Guardian newspaper in 2010.
